Notes from Bishopsgate's meeting with the Crime Prevention officer.

Special Guest Speaker

Kings Grant Civic League will have a soldier who has recently served in Iraq/Afghanistan to speak at its meeting on March 20th.  The speaker has been asked to discuss how our troops feel about serving there and their perception of how they are received by the local population.  He can also speak on any other aspects of his tour over there.

Noteworthy

FCHS

In honor of the class of 2010, students at First Colonial High School donated 2,010 books to a small village in the Philippines to start a library.  Congratulations to the PTSA Gradfest Committee, the Gifted Advisory Board, and the Legal Studies Academy for helping PE Teacher Cindy Midkiff make this possible.

UNLOCKED Cars:

Over the last several nights four cars in our community were opened and rummaged through.  According to the police, the MO of this type of incident is for a group of 3-6 people to check out all cars in an area late at night to determine which ones are unlocked.  They then open and loot each one. Once they find an area where there are unlocked cars, they tend to keep coming back.  For the safety of your family and your neighbors, please lock your cars at night.

Little Neck Cove Civic League

Community Location

The Little Neck Peninsula- from the small park next to Redwood Farms to the ends of West Little Neck Road and Little Neck Point (excluding the Sea Breeze Farm area)

History

Our area is comprised of small developments as well as properties that were built on at various times since the early 1900's.  The current civic league was founded in 1997 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted an organization to represent our area, particularly to press the city for installation of sewer and water lines to serve our area.  We also organized a Neighborhood Watch for our residents, and adopted the Little Neck Road Bike Path in our area for periodic clean up.  We decided on the name “Little Neck Cove” because there was an existing civic league in Sea Breeze Farms which was in the middle of our area.  We give each resident in our area a regular newsletter and a Neighborhood Directory which lists all league members and a history of the area.

Thank you's

Thank you to all of the people that helped during the Egg Hunt.  The event was great and we had lots of kids.  Many people help behind the scenes as well by offering donations of time, money, baked goods and filled eggs just to make this all come together.  We have a great time in this neighborhood!

Residents thank the volunteer Little Neck Cove Neighborhood Watch Block Captains for not only keeping a watchful eye out for us all, but for also, over the many years, and without question or complaint, distributing the civic League Newsletter and other neighborhood flyers to keep all well informed.  Thanks neighbors!
